History of Maplewood Tavern (1924 - 2024)​
1924: Establishment by Henry Peter and Orpha "Smith" Cadarette Maplewood Tavern was founded in 1924 by Henry Peter and Orpha "Smith" Cadarette as a dance hall during the Prohibition era. Despite the challenges, they quickly became a popular destination for dance enthusiasts.​

1932: Passing of Henry Peter Cadarette Tragedy struck in 1932 when Henry Peter Cadarette passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51, leaving Orpha to manage the tavern on her own.​
​
1933: With the end of Prohibition in 1933, Maplewood Tavern applied for a license to sell beer, wine, and soda, marking a new chapter in its history.​
​
1932-1956: Orpha continued to run the tavern with the help of family and Mr. Anton (Andy) Andres. The establishment thrived under her management.​
​
1956: Passing of Orpha Cadarette In 1956, ownership passed to her son Henry Vernon Cadarette and his wife Clarise Kramer, as per the agreement made when they lived with Orpha.​
​
1963: The passing of Mr. Andres Mr. Andres, a key figure in maintaining the tavern, passed away in 1963, leaving a void that was felt in the operation of the business.
​1964: Passing of Henry Vernon Cadarette Henry Vernon Cadarette, son of Henry Peter, passed away in 1964 at the age of 44. The business continued under the management of Clarise and the help of others.

​1971: Clarise Marries Julian Grzenkowicz In 1971, and together they ran the tavern. Julian worked a full-time job, and the bar transitioned to a 6-month operating status when he retired.​
​
2004: Henry Lee Cadarette and Penny McGirr took over the management of Maplewood Tavern. They opened the back part of the tavern, did maintenance work, and introduced live music on weekends.​
​
2011: Clarise in the Guinness World Records Clarise was honored in 2011 by the Guinness World Records for the longest career as a bartender, a testament to her dedication to Maplewood Tavern.

​2021: Clarise passed away on June 8 at the age of 102, and Henry Lee Cadarette passed away on September 17. The bar had been closed for two years due to COVID-19.
​
2022-2024: Efforts are underway to revive Maplewood Tavern. Henry's family and friends are working to restore the building, welcoming back loyal customers and musicians to continue the legacy.
